Oxy 30 and tramadol 50mg

I was just given tramadol by my doctor for some pain. Has anyone taken this and if so did you find it gave you the same relief as Percocet or Vicodin? I was also confused as to why I wasn't given one of those instead of the tramadol, which I have never heard of before. "Oxy 30 and tramadol 50mg" am ambien show up as benzo to take narcotics for my chronic pain.
