My 7 yo son starting taking intuniv for adhd about a month ago and he is experiencing weird sleep issues. He is waking up about an hour after going to sleep and is extremely agitated and crying, although he is not awake and doesn't remember the episodes in the am.

Ironically, the withdrawal symptoms of Adderall are opposite its effects. Common symptoms include fatigue, depression and difficulty concentrating. People who take large doses of Adderall for prolonged periods of time run the risk of becoming physically dependent on the drug.

Many children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, struggle with sleep problems. However, there has been much debate in the ADHD community about whether stimulant medications — the most widely used treatment for ADHD — help children sleep better or only make their struggles worse. A new study published in the December issue of Pediatrics may put the debate to bed.
