Hey pammie, It's hard to say, it depends why they are taking Ativan, if they are already Benzo tolerant, and whether or not they are taking other drugs that can amplify Ativan. For example, opiates and sleeping meds, such as Ambien, can amplify Ativan so you would use less of either Ativan or both. Now if the person wasn't taking anything else, and they had severe anxiety that needed constant medication, I would say 4 mg a day is the max dosage.
