When someone is dependent on a drug like Klonopin, it means they will experience withdrawal symptoms if they stop taking it or reduce their dose. Going through withdrawal from a drug is never easy. In the case of Klonopin, it can feel downright devastating and can even be dangerous. A common brand name for the generic medication clonazepam, Klonopin belongs to a group of drugs referred to as benzodiazepines , part of the general class commonly called tranquilizers due to the calming and sedating effects they have on the body and brain. People tend to quickly develop a tolerance to drugs like Klonopin, causing them to require increasingly higher doses to get the same effect and eventually resulting in withdrawal symptoms if they stop taking the drug. This combined with cravings and psychological attachment to the drug due to its ability to cause a significant high is a classic recipe for addiction. This is especially true if Klonopin is taken at high doses for recreational purposes, but it can also happen to people using it for legitimate medical reasons and following dosage instructions carefully.

A 63 year old librarian, Jayne, came to me 6 months into a Klonopin taper. In fact, he told me I probably needed them after I tried stopping them cold turkey and felt so sick I thought I was dying.

I've been on klonopinfor the better part of a year, and the last week I've been forcibly taken off the medication as a result of not counting the meds and finishing them too soon before they would let me get a refil. As a result I've been experiencing very strong withdrawals inluding night terrors, body tremors, panic attacks very severe , insomnia, nausea, fear of going insane severe , lack of ability to concentrate, and I think that's it My question is pretty simple, my mom is bringing my new prescription over this afternoon, however, I've come to a decision as this has been a huge wake-up call for me , I want to quit Klonopin, however, I also don't want to have these horribly uncomfortable withdrawals.
